About Catherine and Funkybirch
Catherine grew up in the lovely historic town of Wethersfield, CT. She studied fine art in New York and also at the Art Institute of Boston. She has made her home in the beautiful state of Maine, where the woods, mountains and sea coast are all just minutes away. She has owned and operated a fine arts instructional studio, taught private classes and enrichment programs in both public and private schools. Catherine has had the pleasure of being the Author in Residence for an elementary school system and has given talks on writing and publishing books as an Indie author/ illustrator. She has a holiday piece that was accepted into the permanent collection of the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington , D.C.
Catherine is an avid collector of children’s literature and illustrations, both vintage and current. She has written and illustrated several stories of her own. I LOVE MY SOCKS was the first to have been published, in September of 2019 and The Snowman Choir was published in May of 2020. Her 3rd book The Bears’ Halloween Ball was published in May of 2021. A book published in 2023 , titled A STORY BE TOLD, is a collaboration with 3 other writers and illustrated by Patricia Brier. This book can only be ordered directly from Catherine. Catherine is an artist and has illustrated as well as written her books. She also has created a card line which has over 43 card designs for birthdays, holidays and other occasions including “ just because”. She paints on canvas as well and many of her pieces are in homes across the country. Funkybirch is the logo for her card line and artwork. That name was inspired by the funky shaped birch tree in her yard. Her work comes to life from the seasons, celebrations, stories and the beauty of the world around us. Catherine's quotes are: “ Imagination is a vacation and play land for the mind and soul." Imagination is what you will find in her paintings, cards and stories.
